Automation Engineer

CELSA Steel UK Cardiff

£48,500 - £52,000, plus a £2,550 call-out allowance and 10% bonus


Were a Steel company. That means we have some of the largest pieces of kit youll find in industry. From 240T Gantry Cranes, Variable Speed Drives and 53MW Electric Arc Furnaces, maintaining and improving our machinery in an environment like ours is a real challenge.


Working within the wider Engineering Management Team, youll be leading and managing projects as well as a team of Electrical Technicians. Analysis, design and planning will be a part of the role but getting on the production floor and taking the lead is key.


Plan, prioritize, schedule, and manage electrical activities (i.e. planned maintenance programs, shutdowns or emergency repairs) to minimize break-downs and malfunctions

Supervise and evaluate the Automation part of electrical systems; including maintenance of the automation and digital systems through software and hardware follow-up and implementation of updates.

Ensure that risk assessments, method statements and permits are created, implemented and being followed

Estimate the cost, time, and resources required for repair and improvement projects

Work directly with engineers in other disciplines and shift managers to ensure effective running of the process


The Person

Previous experience working in Automation in heavy industry

SIMATIC manager (STEP 7, TIA PORTAL)

  • Experience of transducers, sensors & general control systems.

Understanding and Experience of large AC/DC motor controls, invertors and converters

Experience of leading and developing successful teams
