The role

Joining a dynamic team, you’ll be pivotal to both the team’s and the company’s future success.

You’ll be responsible for assessing risks and making informed underwriting decisions that help deliver competitive insurance solutions and the best possible outcomes for SME customers across a wide range of SME businesses. You’ll ensure customers are being offered well-priced and properly structured policies which meet customers’ needs, whilst also adhering to company risk management guidelines and regulatory requirements. You’ll also be contributing to the development and review of policy wording.

Drawing on your knowledge of insurance for SMEs, you’ll identify opportunities for process improvements and apply your real-time knowledge of industry changes and trends to enhancing your underwriting decisions.

A solid team player, you’ll collaborate closely with your underwriting colleagues to ensure consistency across the board, whilst also sharing your knowledge and insights. You’ll also need to work seamlessly with other departments, facilitating smooth communication and maintaining consistent and high-quality decision-making.

What you bring

To thrive, you’ll need a solid understanding of underwriting guidelines, ideally within the SME insurance market, and be comfortable pricing policies and assessing a variety of risks. This role would suit someone from an MGA, broker or insurer background who brings experience dealing with commercial products Bring a good understanding of underwriting guidelines

Crucial qualities include a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills the ability to adapt quickly to fast-paced changes and strong professional judgement. A positive attitude and commitment to high standards will also be key.

A naturally strong communicator both in internal and external contexts, you’ll be adept in explaining crucial underwriting decisions to clients or brokers - or resolving more complex queries. You’ll also be instrumental in helping develop junior team members, sharing best practice insights with them and providing effective guidance.
