The Role

My client is looking for a Senior Planner with relevant industry experience to join their Cardiff-based team. The role offers the opportunity to work on UK-wide projects, including the largest planning application in Wales with Tata Steel. The Cardiff office has a team of 12 and collaborates closely with the Bristol office, where team members can work one day per week if desired.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced planning professionals, contributing to planning applications, appeals, pre-application enquiries, and local plan representations. They will be a key point of contact for project teams, local planning authorities, and stakeholders, playing a vital role in driving development forward.



Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and delivering a variety of planning projects, including advice, applications, appeals, and complex developments.

  • Preparing well-reasoned and accurate planning advice.

  • Producing comprehensive reports and correspondence.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with new and existing clients.

  • Leading on some client project meetings.

  • Assisting in the preparation of fee proposals and tenders.

  • Supporting and managing consultant teams.

  • Coaching and mentoring junior employees.



What They Are Looking For



Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • A degree or higher qualification in a relevant subject.

  • MRTPI accreditation (a must for Senior level; those not chartered would be considered at Planner level).

  • Experience working on medium and large-scale projects.

  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • A sound understanding of UK planning law.

  • Strong commercial awareness with sound judgment and integrity.

  • A positive, hard-working attitude with the ability to work independently.

  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.

  • Professionalism in internal and external interactions.
