Work Pattern:Circa 45hrs/week. Monday Friday

Who were looking for:

We are looking to appoint a Director of Workshop Operations within our DEG Workshop business with overall responsibility for the safe, efficient and cost-effective management of the repair and maintenance function of all mechanical assets operated by the Group. This is a key position within the Group; the successful candidate will report directly to the Board of Directors and will be required to service the maintenance requirements of the Group. The remuneration package will be commensurate with the responsibilities and expectations of the position and the experience and quality of the applicant.

What youll be responsible for:

The Director of Workshop Operations will lead and manage a team of employees including Heavy Plant and LGV Fitters, Welders and Fabricators, Tyre Fitters, Stores people, and other support staff. The team is responsible of maintaining a large and diverse fleet.

Your will be required to work closely with the plant and transport operational managers/ Directors of the Group Companies to proactively manage the scheduling of safety inspections and servicing, responding to breakdowns, defects and other unscheduled issues. You will be expected to communicate effectively with suppliers and the main dealers who provide contract maintenance; this will include the scheduling of out-of-hours inspections and servicing; warranty claims, and factory recalls. You will collaborate closely on the assessment of day-to-day costing of the business, lifetime ownership costs of all assets and the productivity/cost effectiveness of welding, fabrication and spraying activities.

The Person - Essentials

You will have excellent communication, inter-personal and organisational skills, you will have a comprehensive understanding and practical experience of general mechanical principals, plant & transport engineering, electrical systems, design, fabrication, MIG & TIG welding, final assembly, installation and testing.

You will have commercial awareness and a flair for practical problem solving; you will be familiar with working within a rigorous health and safety environment, codes of practice and quality protocols.

Experience in a commercial workshop management environment

Experience managing maintenance for a large and diverse fleet of plant and transport

Knowledge of H&S / SHEQ legislation, practice and procedures

Experience of working within formal management systems such as BS/ISO

A sound understanding and knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Regulations

IT Literate and competent on MS office packages including Word, Excel and Outlook

Risk Assessments/ Method Statements

Able to demonstrate excellent record keeping and detailed cost control

Ability to solve complex problems and issues as they arise

Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering

Desirable

Previous experience in the Waste/ Recycling/ Remediation Industry

Repair & Modification of equipment

Electrical Engineering/ Electrical Systems

Experience of using workshop related IT and Management Tools

MOT Testing/ LOLER/ PUWER/ MEWP Regs

Experience of Atlas/ Citation

NVQ4 (or above) in a relevant discipline

Membership of Professional Industry Body

Certificate of Professional Competency (CPC) National Freight

Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings

Forklift / MEWP Qualified

HGV Driving Licence
