Role: Systems Engineer - Network & Infrastructure

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for receiving reference architecture patterns and project specific low-level designs from the architecture team and implementing them in-field for customer deployments. This will involve distilling the LLDS down into project specific implementation drawings and work instructions for other engineers but also creating as-is design documents for site configuration.

The role will be based from Cardiff on an ad-hoc basis, with regular travel.

The role will encompass the lower-level hardware designs in support of rollout, for example, installation design drawings per site/site type (rack layouts, room layouts, power and comms schematics etc) and low-level configuration designs regarding the infrastructure.

You will act as a technical lead for all design and implementation projects, providing guidance to Field Project Engineers and feedback to Systems Engineers that will be used to continuously improve design patterns and frameworks.

Primary responsibilities

• Performing site surveys for upcoming data centre deployments from a range of perspectives including power, internet, cooling and other factors.

• Installing and commissioning the data centre products and services for the system which included infrastructure, network and software components

• Documenting as-built designs as part of the installations and commissioning

• Deploying software applications on various environments prior to deployment testing the devops and deployment procedures for new releases.

• Link to Configuration Control for all implementation design documents produced including version control.

• Pro-actively engage the wider business and Vendor teams (e.g. equipment partners, support desk), driving the timely resolution of technical gaps and issues to keep projects on track.

•Proactively research the optimal bill of materials from an infrastructure and hardware perspective for project deliveries.

•Assist in UK deployments and work streams whilst not in field such as LLD’s, environments management and working with the other engineers on specific tasks

•Frequently travelling (sometimes with noticeably short notice) onsite to international customer sites to accomplish the above. ( all expenses will be paid)

Skills and experience

-Strong Technical Expertise: The candidate should possess in-depth knowledge and proficiency in various technologies, infrastructure, software

-Problem-Solving Skills: Skilled at analysing and resolving complex technical challenges that arise during the design and implementation of the platforms

-Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication and teamwork are crucial to work closely with developers, stakeholders, and other teams to ensure delivery of the strategy

-Excellent understanding and experience of hardware infrastructure implementation and low-level working principles

-Ability to assess COTS applications and oversee the implementation of associated tools and products.

-Ability to proactively think on the fly and look to alternative solutions to cope with the changing environment of the deployments

-Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering preferable however 4+ years of experience in mixed software engineering and IT projects a must

-Experience of in-field working and working in environmentally diverse locations
