Prospero Teaching are looking for an experienced, passionate and patient Higher Learning Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work with one of our clients in the Cardiff area. As an HLTA, you will be working five days per week within a Special Education Needs school setting. The successful candidate will be supporting the Social Emotional and Mental Health team, working alongside young people with a wide variety of mental health issue and learning difficulties. As an HLTA, you will hold a Level 4 qualification, or equivalent. Within this role, you will be working with educators to organise and support learning activities on a 1:1 and group basis.

Ideally, you will have experience tutoring within a SEN or SEMH setting, being able to comfortably deliver and support course material for the young people.

The desired candidate will have:

  • Experience working with young people with complex social communication difficulties and Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Experience planning and delivering successful 1:1 and group activities, including emotion regulation approaches
  • Level 4 Teaching Assistant qualification essential, or equivalent
  • Be creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box
  • Have experience working with challenging behaviour and disengaged pupils
  • Experience of report writing, coaching and mentoring
  • Be able to flexibly work across Cardiff and travel independently

What we need from you:

  • Hold a right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to complete a new application
  • Provide references to cover the last two years of employment
  • The ability to commit to the young person and work for the duration of the placement
