Our client is an established, global market leader constantly working to innovate and expand their product portfolio, with bases in the U.K and the U.S. They are currently looking to appoint an experienced Process Engineering Manager to join their team of Engineers.

Main purpose

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will lead a team of versatile engineers to complete new product introductions into our Manufacturing Department. You will also work with the Manufacturing & Quality Departments to identify and deliver continuous improvement activities for existing products. 

You will be a completer-finisher who will lead the team responsible for the qualification, verification and validation of processes covering build, calibration and test stages of highly technical and specialised measurement products.

Duties to include

  • Coordinate & manage the Process Engineering team’s day to day activities.
  • Facilitate the professional development of the Process Engineering team members.
  • Enable smooth communication between the R&D, Manufacturing & Quality. Departments to help drive the success of new product introductions and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the development, validation and verification of new processes for new products.
  • Work with the Manufacturing & Quality team to identify opportunities and deliver solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the production of supporting documentation for new processes and procedures, including build, test and standard operating procedures.
  • Where necessary, support the development team with the validation and verification of new products.
  • Work within our Phase Gate structure and own the Design Transfer phase.
  • Work with new product development teams to advise on the design for manufacture of new products, turning their build instructions into processes and procedures suitable for mass manufacture to be followed by our manufacturing department.
  • Undertake and oversee the build of pre-production batches of parts to analyse the build process.
  • Oversee the training of manufacturing staff on new processes, such as delicate mechanical assembly, soldering, board programming and calibration.
  • Work with the software team to automate existing processes, including the implementation of robotics and cobots.
  • Oversee the design, build and specification of manufacturing jigs, tools and equipment. Oversee the creation and maintenance of new parts, BoMs and suppliers in our MRP system.
  • Work within an ISO 9001 environment. Support internal and external audits where necessary. Work with the development team to identify and specify replacement parts and components for obsolete parts.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Essential Experience leading a team.
  • Degree in Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related subject.
  • Extensive experience in product and process validation and verification.
  • Attention to detail and a drive to deliver quality products.
  • Project planning and the ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks and achieve set targets.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel & Publisher). Ability to travel (UK and occasionally internationally).

Desirable

  • Electronics assembly and soldering proficiency – surface mount & through hole.
  • Familiarity with assembly of single use plastic products, including adhesives and ultrasonic welding.
  • Understanding of CE/EMC compliance principles.
  • Familiarity with MRP systems.
  • Expertise with statistical process control (SPC, CPK’s etc.)
