Your new companyOur client, a specialist engineering service in the Nuclear, Defence, Oil & Gas, Motorsport, Pharmaceutical and Renewable industries, is widely recognised as one of the area's employers of choice. Their head office is located in Carlisle and has recently been acquired by a diverse US-owned Group business. A newly created role has arisen and will be responsible for reporting financial performance to the management and leadership teams for 3 business units across six operating sites. This will include ownership of monthly management reporting, commentary and analysis, drawing valuable insights from the financial data and trends. Your new roleReporting directly to the Finance Director, you will join a team of 7, and will take ownership of monthly management reporting, commentary and analysis, drawing valuable insights from the financial data and trends.The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical / excel skills and be able to communicate complex financial information in a succinct manner. Typical duties of this role will include:
- Working closely with the Business Units and Finance Team to develop and improve accurate, timely financial reports tailored to their needs and that of the business.
- Assist the Finance Director to identify the drivers of and risks to business unit performance with tailored reports and financial analysis.
- Assist the Financial Controller in the continuous improvement of the internal control environment, suggesting areas of development and supporting change projects
- Manage the WIP sheet for machined items and projects, updating operational forecasts and reviewing contract margins.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and management information packs to track business performance of the 3 UK entities.
- Co-ordinating the preparation of the budget, financial forecasts and KPIs, analysing and reporting on variances,
- Supporting tax compliance processes, SAO compliance, and the monthly and year-end management accounts processes
- The ability to communicate well and develop an excellent working relationship with both finance and non-finance staff at all levels across the business.
- To be able to analyse, interrogate and interpret financial reports and accounts whilst providing commercial input and challenge to the relevant management teams.
- Developing and measuring key financial performance indicators aligned with company strategy for continuous improvement.
- Developing financial processes, and tools for timely and effective management reporting.
- Assisting in the preparation of financial reports and analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting the finance team with ad-hoc tasks and projects
- To carry out any other duties that may be reasonably required.

- Proven experience as a Management Accountant, or similar role
- Solid knowledge of basic and advanced accounting and financial principles and practices.
- Excellent knowledge of cost accounting, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Strong analytical mind.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Relevant certification or part-certification.
- To work as a business partner within a variety of management teams, adding value and support
- Discretion and an awareness and understanding of strict confidentiality requirements.
- A forward-thinking, solutions-focused and innovative approach to improve and develop tools, processes, and solutions.
