Your new company
My client is a manufacturing organisation based in Carlisle. They are world-leading suppliers in their market with an excellent reputation in the area. They employ circa 150 employees with a turnover exceeding 100m.
Your new role
They currently have a vacancy for a Buyer who will support the purchasing team with the procurement of machine components. The successful candidate will be responsible for buying materials to the company's requirements, ensuring goods are delivered when required and purchased at the most competitive rates within the available budget.

Duties will include:

  • Review MRP system information daily and act appropriately on agreed stock levels.
  • Identify gain sharing opportunities for new supplier agreements and implement these, seeking to achieve improvements to pricing and call-off processes.
  • Place and expedite purchase orders where necessary
  • Ensure that all issues requiring escalation are indeed escalated in a timely manner to minimise the knock-on effects on production.
  • Actively benchmark and negotiate with suppliers to ensure the business achieves optimal value on materials
  • Liaise regularly with commercial and planning departments to ensure purchased parts remain aligned to production capacity
  • Process returns effectively and in a timely manner, aligning with other departments
  • Conduct supplier audits to ensure compliance with set standards and contract terms
  • Ensure the quality and performance of supplier materials/parts fall in line with acceptable standards.
  • Implement and monitor supplier performance using procurement KPI.
  • Ensure all procurement activities are carried out in line with health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Supervise procurement administrative activities.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment where production, material planning and purchasing is controlled through an ERP system
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Knowledge and understanding of ERP systems
  • Proven ability to build stakeholder relationships combined with excellent communication
  • Organisational skills and the ability to deliver high quality and timely output
  • Excel in a team focused environment
