We are looking for a highly experienced and dedicated Behaviour Support Worker/1:1 to join a Primary School inclusion team in Castleford, full time starting as soon as possible. This is a temporary role supporting three Year 4 students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The position is initially until Christmas, with the potential for an extension.

About the Role:This is a unique opportunity to work as part of a very supportive team of educators, where your role will involve providing targeted support for multiple students. Unlike traditional 1:1 roles, you will be working with all three children throughout the day, adapting to their individual needs to help them succeed both academically and socially.

What We're Looking For:We are seeking a highly experienced individual with a strong background in supporting children with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour. The successful candidate must have:

  • Proven experience working with children with SEMH and complex behavioural needs, ideally within a primary or secondary school setting.
  • The ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively, using positive behaviour strategies and resilience in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, the inclusion team, and external professionals.
  • A calm, patient, and confident approach, with the capability to stand your ground while maintaining compassion and understanding.
  • Emotional resilience, as this role will require dealing with difficult and sensitive situations on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and nurture three Year 4 pupils with SEMH needs, helping them manage their behaviour and engage positively with their learning environment.
  • Work as part of the school's inclusion team to implement and adapt individual behaviour plans and strategies.
  • Provide tailored interventions throughout the school day, promoting a positive and supportive atmosphere.
  • Liaise with teachers, SENCO, and external agencies to ensure each child's needs are fully met.

Hours: 8:45 am - 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday. This is a temporary post initially until Christmas, but there is potential for it to be extended.

If you are passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with SEMH needs and are ready for a rewarding, yet challenging role, we want to hear from you!
