Position: HLTA Teaching Assistant
Location: Caterham, Surrey
Hourly Rate: £12.31 - £13.16 per hour
Salary: Actual salary £21,995.67 - £23,514.45 depending on experience and qualifications
Plus: £1000 Welcome Bonus*
Hours: 40 hours per week, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (flexibility required). You will be required to work until 5 pm one day a week for staff training and meetings. Term-time only.

Caterham Education Centre

Simply Education is currently looking to recruit a HLTA Teaching Assistant for Caterham Education Centre (CEC) in Caterham, Surrey. CEC is a 30-place secondary/post-16 learning centre supporting young people aged 11 16 who have difficulties with communication and social interaction, typically associated with Aspergers Syndrome, Autism, and challenging behaviour.

CEC shares strong links with a nearby school, with a shared Principal and Head of School. However, each site operates independently with its own dedicated team, including an Assistant Head, Teachers, and Teaching Assistants. Additionally, a full therapy team is on-site to support both staff and students. Staff and students may occasionally move between sites.

Key Duties:

  • Build warm, caring, and supportive relationships with pupils to help them feel safe, engaged, and ready to learn.
  • Promote and encourage independence and personal development in students.
  • Support the Class Teacher in all day-to-day class operations.
  • Adapt to the varying needs of the school, ensuring the smooth running of all tasks. On occasion, physical intervention may be required, and full training will be provided.
  • Promote the cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical development, and spiritual well-being of pupils.

Please note: Responsibilities may vary, and you will be expected to contribute to the overall aims of the school as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • GCSE Maths and English (minimum Grade 4 or equivalent) essential.
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working in a special school environment highly desirable.
  • Team TEACH training desirable.
