Special Educational Needs Teacher - SEMH School

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the skills, patience, and resilience to support students who require individualized approaches to learning? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.!

About Us:

Time Plan are working with a specialist school that provides education for pupils with an Educational, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), where SEMH is their primary need. The school is a nurturing, inclusive environment where every student is treated as an individual, and where staff work hard to deliver a curriculum that addresses not only academic achievement but also social and emotional development.

Many of the pupils have experienced challenges in mainstream education, often leading to fragmented schooling and delays in their academic progress. This can sometimes result in low self-esteem and anti-social behaviour. We believe that with the right support, each of the students can succeed and thrive both in school and beyond.

The Role:

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher to join our team. In this role, you will:

  • Plan and deliver personalised learning programs tailored to meet each student's unique SEMH needs.
  • Support students in overcoming barriers to learning, both academically and socially, enabling them to make measurable progress.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner.
  • Work closely with the wider school team, including teaching assistants, therapists, and parents/carers, to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with students, fostering trust and providing them with a sense of stability and encouragement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement behaviour management strategies that promote self-regulation and positive social interaction.
  • Monitor and track pupil progress, adapting teaching methods as necessary.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop strategies for improving students' emotional well-being and academic attainment.
  • Provide pastoral support and mentorship to pupils who may be experiencing difficulties with their mental health or emotional regulation.

About You:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs, particularly those who have experienced trauma or disrupted education.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to teaching.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships with young people and help them feel valued.
  • Care Worker background desired.

If you are ready to take on this rewarding challenge and help shape the futures of young people with SEMH needs, we would love to hear from you!
