MLK Search is excited to be supporting this fully inclusive, purpose built, mixed, comprehensive school in Newham in recruiting a new Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, and to lead their dedicated department for pupils with profound, severe, and multiple learning difficulties.

Not your typical Assistant Headship, the role comprises of strategic oversight, advocacy for SEND within a Mainstream school and wider Trust, direct support and collaboration with SLT and the Trust Executive Team.

This is an extremely rare and exciting opportunity for a SEND advocate with a wealth of experience that spans a vast array of complex learning, developmental, medical, and physical needs

The school caters for 860 pupils with the dedicated PMLD department supporting 25 students from the diverse, multi-ethnic, and multi-cultural community of Newham. As the pilot school for the Borough's first dedicated provision, facilities are exceptional and the building has achieved national architectural recognition for its design.

This truly is a wonderful place for young people to learn and grow, and also for staff to work and develop.

MAIN PURPOSE

  • Provide effective leadership and strategic direction to support the provider organisation in meeting statutory duties and quality standards around SEND.
  • Lead the development and oversight of the schools SEND development plan in conjunction with the Director of SEND and Local Authority strategic priorities.
  • Facilitate the school to meet the requirements of the new Ofsted Joint SEND Inspection Framework.
  • Strengthen partnership working between NHS providers and the Integrated Care Board (ICB) to improve quality of services for disabled children and young people and children and young people with special educational need and their families.
  • Act as SEND Champion for improved outcomes and experiences for SEND, within the whole school.
  • To implement the intervention strategy to remove barriers to learning for all.
  • To review the current assessments, ensuring that processes and strategies are in place.
  • To plan for opportunities for pupils in the RP to access some mainstream lessons.
  • To review the curriculum on offer especially for pupils who cannot access GCSEs.
  • To liaise with local businesses to offer internship opportunities for pupils with SEND.
  • To provide development to all staff so they adapt their teaching to pupils needs.
  • To oversee the refresher phonics training.
  • To oversee access to learning for pupils and implement a system of monitoring to ensure it is effective.

The successful applicant will be expected to network and liaise across the range of external providers, schools, community and coordinator networks to ensure a consistency of approach regarding standards, support, and transition.

KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Honours Degree and Qualified Teacher Status in the UK.
  • Evidence of and commitment to further professional development relevant to the post
  • A SENCO Qualification would be highly desirable
  • A record of high quality classroom teaching and whose students make excellent progress
  • Recent and relevant experience of working as part of a Senior Leadership Team would be highly desirable
  • Delivering and implementing effective and measurable change
  • Knowledge of effective strategies to include, and meet the needs of all pupils, in particular, underachieving groups and pupils with PMLD, SEN, EAL.
  • Demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills and confidence in public speaking and leading school assemblies
