Senior Mechanical Engineer – Manchester (Energy, Renewables, Oil & Gas, Hydrogen, Refinery, Chemical)

Key Responsibilities:
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and specification of mechanical systems, ensuring the safety, functionality, and efficiency of critical plant equipment. Your responsibilities will include:
- Mechanical Design & Specification: Specify pipework, pressure vessels, valves, mechanical items, plant equipment, and materials of construction for a wide range of projects in the energy and chemical sectors.
- Process Interpretation: Apply your strong understanding of process requirements and interpret P&ID’s to ensure designs meet project and client specifications.
- Compliance with Standards: Ensure compliance with relevant standards and codes such as ASME, ASTM, ISO, MSS, and EU standards related to process pipework. This includes PED 2014/68/EU, ASME/ANSI B16 series, and ASME/ANSI B31.3.
- Design Tools: Utilize design software such as AutoCAD (with a preference for Plant 3D) or similar tools to create accurate mechanical designs.
- Problem-Solving & Analysis: Use your analytical and problem-solving abilities to address challenges and ensure the optimal performance of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions, ensuring project timelines and quality standards are met.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
- Incorporated or Chartered status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
- Experience:
- At least 5years of relevant experience in an engineering design field, particularly within the Energy, Oil & Gas, Renewables, or Chemical industries.
- Strong experience specifying and designing mechanical systems, including pipework, pressure vessels, and plant equipment.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Solid understanding of P&ID interpretation and process requirements.
- Proficient knowledge of industry standards, including ASME, ASTM, ISO, MSS, and EU standards.
- Software Skills:
- Experience with AutoCAD (with a preference for Plant 3D) or equivalent design software.
- Problem-Solving:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address engineering challenges in a timely and efficient manner.
