Job Description:

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with the classroom teacher to provide tailored support to students, ensuring they have access to a meaningful and inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of highly-tailored lesson plans for students with SEND.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them with their academic, social and emotional development.
  • Adapt learning materials and resources to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Support students in developing independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the teacher and parents/guardians.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being, implementing strategies to manage challenging behaviours.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to create a cohesive support network for students.
  • Assist with classroom activities, ensuring all students are engaged and included.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in SEND education.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for working with children and a commitment to supporting students with special educational needs.
  • Previous experience working with children with SEND in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to supporting students' needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Basic knowledge of SEND support and best practices.
