We are looking for a Financial Controller on a 3 month FTC. The Financial Controller role is a key leadership position here at CHP steering the financial accounting function, which provides an effective and high-quality financial reporting service to the strategic and operation leadership teams, as well as overseeing regulatory reporting, financial controls for the group including policies and procedures, VAT and tax reporting, the internal and external audit process, rent and service charge setting, asset management, sales and purchase ledger, and daily banking and system transactions.

We’re commencing an exciting continuous improvement programme within the finance team, Project Optimist, with the Financial Controller playing a leading role in driving forward change alongside a project team. The project will improve process, systems, controls, data and culture, making us more efficient and effective as a team. It will build on the soon to be implemented budgeting and reporting software, strengthening the service provided by the finance function to the business and our customers.

What you'll be doing

  • As the Head of the Function, lead, inspire and motivate the Financial Accounting and Reporting team to create an effective accounting capability which enhances the quality of financial management, reporting and control at CHP.

  • Lead the agenda to improve and innovate financial accounting, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting directions and standards and compliance requirements for CHP.

  • Lead and deliver with the Finance Business Partner team robust management accounting at CHP, thereby effectively managing CHP’s financial risk and ensuring that CHP’s financial governance and control is complied with across the Group.

  • Lead assessment and control activities to ensure appropriate accounting compliance takes place at CHP.

  • Lead the accurate and timely delivery of financial reporting to enable clear communication of CHP’s and subsidiaries financial statements in line with agreed reporting timescales. (Provide onboarding and oversee reporting services for CHP Partnership contracts.)

What we are looking for

  • Relevant CCAB, CIMA or equivalent qualification.

  • Extensive experience in accounting, including direct accounting practice, VAT and CIS reporting, as well as collating, preparing and interpreting reports, budgets, accounts and financial statements.

  • Significant experience of challenging and engaging senior stakeholders to help them to arrive at appropriate financial decisions.

  • Extensive experience in motivating, developing and leading teams as well as supporting senior level management.

  • Excellent strategic thinker who also has an extensive experience of delivering change and making significant improvements to accounting.
