An exciting opportunity has arisen for a contract aerospace candidate to join as a AIVT Engineer. Working across all stages of space and science projects for imaging devices and subsystems, this role covers a wide range of hands-on, clean-room, and office-based engineering tasks relating to a variety of activities, including electro-optical testing, electrical continuity testing, accelerated life testing, and mechanical stress testing.

TheSenior AIVT Engineerwill be given the responsibility of commissioning, testing and verifying functional, electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements on component, sub-system and system level projects. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and Product Assurance Engineer to ensure the successful delivery of fully tested and verified space systems.
  • Take ownership of the Assembly, Integration, Verification, and Testing (AIVT) strategy for delivering subsystems or payloads in space-based applications.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test and verification plans derived from system-level requirements across all development stages.
  • Plan, commission, and conduct functional, electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing at both subsystem and system levels.
  • Prepare documentation and deliver presentations for design, test, and project reviews to internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Support project managers with input into project schedules, risk assessments, and budget planning as needed.
  • Liaise with external partners to review and assess their AIVT methodologies and processes.
  • Conduct verification testing at both subsystem and full system levels to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Oversee the scheduling and allocation of test equipment across multiple projects to optimise availability and efficiency.
  • Define technical requirements for test systems (GSE), and manage the setup and operation of both Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE).
  • Execute unit and system-level integration and test activities in accordance with project plans.
  • Perform verification, acceptance testing, and screening of Front-End Electronics and Payload Systems to ECSS (European Cooperation for Space Standardization) standards.

Experience Requirements:


  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience in Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) of spaceflight hardware at the subsystem or system level for space applications.
  • Strong background in test planning, execution, and scheduling across various stages of development.
  • Hands-on experience with requirements verification and validation processes.
  • Proficiency in scripting and operating Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) systems.
  • Solid understanding of electrical and electronic engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing protocols and standards for space subsystems.
  • Experience with engineering lifecycle management tools and requirements management systems.
