A Local Authority is looking for a Housing Advice & Homelessness Prevention Officer to join their team on a minimum 3-month contract, with the potential for extension.
You will play a crucial role in assessing housing needs, preventing homelessness, and providing housing advice to applicants. This includes:
- Assessing and responding to homelessness applications under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
- Writing S184 decision letters and Personal Housing Plans (PHPs).
- Providing housing options advice, including tenancy sustainment, welfare reform support, and negotiation with landlords and lenders.
- Managing temporary accommodation placements and seeking solutions to prevent homelessness.
Experience Required:
- Strong working knowledge of HRA 2017, Part VII of the Housing Act 1996, and landlord & tenant law.
- Experience handling homelessness cases and making legally sound decisions.
- Prior experience with Locata or working within an Essex Local Authority is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, supportive team in a rural setting.
