A North Essex Local Authority is seeking two Triage Officers to join their team on an initial 3-month contract, with a strong likelihood of extension beyond March due to an ongoing service review.

This is a front-facing role where you will assist clients during the initial homelessness approach stage, before referring them to the Housing Options team for further action and decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting initial assessments for homelessness cases
  • Evaluating eligibility for homelessness assistance
  • Booking temporary accommodation
  • Handling housing register queries
  • Completing DASH risk assessments (for domestic abuse cases)

While prior experience with all of the above is not essential, you must have experience working within a homelessness team in a Local Authority. Training will be provided in certain areas, such as temporary accommodation bookings and domestic abuse assessments, for the right candidates.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience in smaller, rural Local Authorities is advantageous
  • Knowledge of the Locata system is a bonus, though not required
  • Enthusiastic and adaptable, with a willingness to learn
  • Have a reference from a previous line manager who can vouch for your capabilities

This role requires 3 days a week in the office, and this is non-negotiable.

Benefits:

  • Highly competitive hourly rate: 26-27 per hour (dependent on experience)
  • Opportunity to gain experience and training in key areas
  • Immediate start date with interviews scheduled next week
