We are seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join our client on a fixed-term contract for maternity cover. This role is essential in delivering a comprehensive generalist HR service, providing expert advice and support in a business-focused, consistent, and timely manner. The position is based in their Chelmsford office with hybrid working options, and may require travel across various regions including London, the Southern Region, Midlands, and the North.
Day-to-day of the role:- Field enquiries for all HR-related issues via phone, email, and in writing.
- Act as a panel member at formal hearings, taking meeting notes and producing written outcomes to protect the company against potential tribunal claims.
- Support and coach managers in all aspects of employee relations, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance management, and sickness absence management.
- Assist in change management activities in accordance with employment law and in consultation with Trade Unions as appropriate, particularly concerning TUPE transfers and changes to terms and conditions.
- Challenge managers to take responsibility for managing staff effectively, using HR interventions to add value and help embed corporate values.
- Provide advice for new starter and leaver processes including the DBS and RTW checking process.
- Monitor workforce and employee relations information to produce regular HR reports.
- Maintain awareness and knowledge of current HR issues within the business, including training and development needs.
- Carry out specific people development activities as required.
- Provide ad hoc project support and assist the HR Manager in continuously improving the HR service.
- Strong track record as an HR Employee Relations expert.
- Experience of advising in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
- Ability to provide commercial HR advice based on practical application of relevant employment law.
- Excellent written English and ability to produce formal correspondence that will stand up to potential scrutiny at an employment tribunal.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to convey facts and ideas clearly.
- Ability to quickly develop credibility and positive working relationships with management, staff, and colleagues.
- Ability to plan and manage own workload and manage conflicting priorities to meet strict deadlines and targets.
- Pro-active approach to HR.
- Desirable: Experience in a unionised environment, managing TUPE transfers, and a CIPD qualification or part qualification.
