As the 'Global Claims Centre’ of one of the world’s biggest insurance brokers, this department handles losses arising from a variety of clients based overseas, whose exposures are so complex that they need to be placed with specialist carriers in the London Market.Due to the continued acquisition of quality accounts by colleagues based across the globe, the need has arisen for several Claims Handlers to join the Financial Lines Department in various capacities. Here, you can deal with claims arising within the wider professional services sector (including high profile names from the worlds of advertising, consultancy and tech’), or chose to join a team that majors in claims affecting some of the largest law firms or financial institutions in the world.Depending on the seniority of the role obtained, you will use your technical processing skills to oversee claims within your caseload; setting strategy and negotiating terms in order to bring losses to a satisfactory conclusion. Other duties may include:

  • First notification of loss for D&O, PI and Crime claims (subject to which team you join).
  • Negotiation and liaison with markets, clients, placement teams, specialists, network offices, underwriters and appointed authorities (loss adjusters, lawyers etc).
  • Conduct data analysis to establish the claims history for a particular client or business portfolio, and to identify trends and patterns in claims for a client or business segment.
  • Coordinate discussions and, where appropriate, meetings to ensure superior level of communication between the client, underwriter and their representatives concerning the proposed settlement.
  • Engage with the Head of Financial lines Advocacy in the strategy to conclude contentious claims.

It is essential that you have knowledge of Financial Lines claims and a detailed knowledge of your chosen field (such as Law, Financial Institutions, or the wider professions market). Whilst by no means essential, this will ideally include some experience of handling international claims.

You must also have experience of dealing with claims being processed within the London Market, and knowledge of relevant systems and protocols, such as CLASS and ECF. You should also have good IT skills, and be confident with collating and analysing management information. It is also essential that you have well-honed interpersonal skills, together with the ability to manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
