  • The Organisation Design Practice Lead plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the organisation and supporting the execution of Business and Transformation plans. This is achieved by aligning organisational structures with strategic objectives, functional priorities, and associated plans, while optimising service performance throughout the organisation.
  • This role is responsible for defining and leading the organisation’s approach to design, including the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of organisational design strategies, methodologies, frameworks, tools, and solutions. The Practice Lead acts as the custodian of the Design Authority, ensuring professional standards are maintained, ethical practices are embedded, and interventions are holistic, effectively driving transformational change and ensuring successful implementation and sustainability.
  • As the Organisation Design Practice Lead, you will collaborate with the Change Practice Lead and Organisation Development Practice Lead to adopt a comprehensive approach to change management, ensuring well-thought-out, managed, and sustainable change across the organisation. You will also partner with the wider People and Organisational Development service to demonstrate the value of Organisational Design methodologies, tools, frameworks, and solutions. In this role, you will showcase your expertise, contribute to growing organisational capability, and consistently apply a consultancy model at a professional standard, driving a culture of continuous improvement.
Service/Functional Accountabilities
  • Lead the design, implementation, assessment, and ongoing evolution of organisational design methodologies, tools, frameworks, and solutions, ensuring they are innovative, cost-effective, inclusive, and aligned with the organisational strategy. This includes supporting both organisational and functional priorities and enabling workforce strategies by collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders across functional and organisational boundaries, ensuring effective communication and shared ownership.
  • Champion thought leadership by blending market awareness with internal insights. This involves using external industry trends alongside internal knowledge to drive innovation and influence decision-making. Staying informed on external benchmarking, emerging technologies, and internal expertise, the role will be responsible for developing forward-thinking organisational design strategies that shape behaviours, influence culture, and deliver tangible outcomes.
Experience
  • Extensive expertise in organisational design within large, complex organisations, preferably in Local Government settings.
  • A degree in a relevant field such as Human Resources, Organisational Development, Business Improvement, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Chartered membership of CIPD, or working towards this, with evidence of ongoing professional development and active contributions to professional networks and forums to expand knowledge in the field of organisational design.
