Senior Social Worker (AMHP)

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior Social Worker to join our dynamic Approved Mental Health Service (AMHP) Service. This role offers the opportunity to work a condensed week of 37 hours across 4 weekdays, with the expectation to be office-based in either Colchester or Basildon as required.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Undertake statutory assessments and manage the AMHP rota.
  • Triage initial enquiries and prioritise responses in line with statutory duties.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance in complex situations, supporting colleagues with complex cases.
  • Manage a complex workload and maintain accurate and timely data, reports, and presentations.
  • Conduct assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983 and plan responses to safeguard vulnerable adults.
  • Work collaboratively with the deputy team manager to coordinate, triage, and allocate incoming referrals.
  • Build effective working relationships across the Council, with partners, and voluntary agencies.
  • Deliver expertise in particular areas of practice and lead on those areas.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualified social worker with current Social Work England registration.
  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) as recognised by ECC.
  • Significant experience in social work and the ability to mentor team members.
  • Comprehensive understanding of current legislation, regulations, and guidance related to mental health.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with partner agencies and the community.
  • Driving licence and car, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
