About the Role

Our client are seeking an experienced Interim Procurement Specialist to join their team for a temporary role. This position will involve collaborating with stakeholders to assess requirements for goods and services, evaluating market options, and developing strategies for high-value spend areas. You will play a key role in managing strategic supplier relationships, driving continuous improvement, and leading the implementation of innovative category plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic category and supplier relationship plans for high spend/high risk areas.
  • Identify market gaps and engage with suppliers to enhance service provision.
  • Collaborate with key suppliers to explore opportunities for benefits, including economic and environmental improvements.
  • Gather insights from contract managers and suppliers to inform commissioning and operational strategies.
  • Lead complex projects and tenders, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Influence procurement agendas and lead cross-authority projects.
  • Provide guidance to senior management on commercial viability and procurement strategies.
  • Promote best practice approaches within the procurement function, maintaining high standards in policies and processes.

Essential Experience:

  • Degree-level education with a relevant professional qualification (e.g., MCIPS) or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience in category management within complex environments.
  • Proven track record managing multi-million pound contracts, with a focus on continuous improvement and supplier performance.
  • In-depth understanding of public sector procurement and contract law.
  • Strong negotiation skills for high-value contracts.
  • Experience in supplier development and market adaptation.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to navigate political environments.
