Trainee Surveyor / Estimator:

An exciting opportunity has arisen, suitable for an individual with ambition and attention to detail, to join an accomplished commercial team as a Trainee Estimator. This role will ideally suit someone who an understanding of construction materials and will be office based with occasional site visits.
* Location: Chelmsford
* Salary: 24,000
* Hours of work: 7.30am - 5pm

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Use specialist software to carry out drawing measures (take off's).
  • Use specialist software to create quotes and various pricing exercises.
  • Use various spreadsheets for tender management and data control.
  • Working in partnership with our internal contract management, construction and head office teams.
  • Help ensure projects are completed in line with projected budgets.
  • Forecast the costs associated with varying projects using highly detailed software and company knowledge.
  • Prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and other documentation.
  • Monitor changes to the design and/or construction work and adjusting budget projections accordingly.
  • Liaise with the client and other construction professionals such as site managers, project managers and site engineers.
  • Help to select and/or source construction materials.
  • Create and present reports as requested.
  • Be willing to work in an office environment.

Experience, Qualifications & Person Specification

  • A good eye for detail is important.
  • Good work ethic and determination to succeed.
  • Experience of MS Excel and Word is essential.
  • Building industry experience would be beneficial.
  • Have strong communication skills.
  • Be able to work on their own initiative but remembering at all times they are working as part of a team.
  • Possess a clean UK driving licence and the ability to commute to head office location.
