Your new company

Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a leading education organisation to recruit a dynamic and experienced part-time Tax Accountant for their Cheltenham, Gloucestershire office. Working within the Finance & Commercial department, you will be primarily responsible for handling VAT and corporation tax matters, supporting all major projects/contracts, providing complex tax advice and assessing upcoming risks. Offering flexible working hours, remote/office hybrid working, and a very generous holiday allowance. Your new role

Your key duties will involve being the primary contact on all projects/contracts in providing tax advice to support financial business modelling and decision-making. You will take the responsibility for the production of statutory returns for VAT, calculation of partial exemption and capital goods scheme, and ensure the organisation's companies are compliant with tax affairs. You will take the responsibility for corporation tax returns, maintain the VAT matrix within the accounting systems, take the lead in interpreting and applying tax legislation with the aim of optimising the tax position of the organisation. You will be responsible for the production and management of tax guidance to educate other departments, provide a self-help service for VAT queries, and support the Financial Controller with the implementation of tax policies. You will assist with the annual review and reporting of the organisation's tax position, identify/develop relevant systems, and liaise with auditors for both year-end audit and internal audit programmes. You will be given the opportunity to deputise for the Financial Controller as and when required, and be involved in ad-hoc tax projects.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this hands-on Part-time Tax Accountant role, you will need experience in a similar position, qualified; ACA, ACCA, CTA, ATT or qualified by experience. Up-to-date knowledge of FRS102 with recent and relevant experience of dealing with VAT and Corporation tax matters. You will have experience of liaising with HMRC with the ability to interpret and explain tax legislation to non-finance team members. You will have strong communication skills to build both internal/external relationships at all levels, experience managing workloads to meet deadlines, along with a proactive and analytical mind-set. You will be trained in a range of finance/tax systems with key MS Excel skills and be willing to learn. Experience within the education or charity sector, knowledge of Agresso system and overseas taxation processes, would be advantageous but not essential.
