Role: Hardware Systems Engineer

Site Location: Cheltenham

Rate: Up to 75 per hour via Umbrella

Duration: 12 month contract

Electrical design, electronic design, power systems, simulations, trade studies, design reviews, lab testing

Key Activities

  • Simulations and trade studies for the power system electrical architecture using Simulink, PLECS, Simetrix, LTspice
  • Short circuit modelling (PLECS)
  • Grounding scheme designs
  • Fault management schemes (e.g. arcing)
  • Working closely with electronics hardware design team including participating in design reviews
  • Trade studies around solid state power controllers (SSPC)
  • Testing of prototype units in high-voltage test lab

Essential Responsibilities

  • Completing tasking as defined by project manager and technical lead (see Key Activities).
  • Participating in cross-discipline regular project status meetings.
  • Have, or be prepared to develop, a deep understanding of aircraft electrical power and avionics systems including electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • Adhere to safety best practice.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Minimum - degree or equivalent in relevant engineering or science subject.
  • Desirable - Masters or PhD in relevant subject.
  • Experience working as an Electrical/Electronic Engineer in the aerospace, automotive or industrial sectors or academia.
  • Working knowledge of Simulink, PLECS, Simetrix, LTspice or equivalents
  • Experience of safe working in Lab Environments (ideally High Voltage)
  • Strong analogue electronics design skills

Desired Characteristics

  • Good understanding of electrical power systems or vehicle systems.
  • Good communication skills in all media.
  • Experience working in an R&D environment
