Day Shift

The first 45 minutes of the shift, 6.00am-6.45am will qualify for an unsociable hour's payment of 20% (i.e. 1.2 time).


Late Shift

This shift is eligible for a premium of 25%. (1.25)


Winter Period - Night Shift

Working this shift entitles employees to a 42% premium. (1.42)


Weekend Shift 1

These shifts attract a 45% premium. (1.45)

Job Description

Our Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) organization partners with a range of global customers, working closely with major airlines such as British Airways, easyJet, Wizz Air, Iberia, Vueling, Air Canada, Etihad, and Qatar.

What will I be doing?

The role of a Shot Peen / Plater involves preparing parts by shot peening to ensure surfaces are ready for electroplating. This role also supports the plating department in the preparation, pre-treatment, and plating of aircraft components according to CMM repairs and specifications.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Masking parts for Peening
  • Preparing parts for the plating process
  • Using planning tools to prioritize work lists
  • Reporting issues to the engineering team effectively
  • Electrical circuitry and surface finishing: Chromium, Nickel, and Cadmium
  • Preparing and masking components during the pre-plating process
  • Setting up tooling, fixtures, and assisting in new tooling design
  • Using a wide and varied range of precision measuring equipment
  • Reading component maintenance manuals, complex drawings, and engineering layouts to determine the methods and sequences of operations needed for part repairs
  • Diagnosing vat, electrical, or tooling malfunctions to determine the need for adjustments or repairs
  • Adhering to COSHH and safe chemical usage guidelines
  • Operating de-embrittlement and stress relief processes
  • Delivering components to the next stage in the process
  • Working on priorities from PAC 1
  • Operating cranes
  • Working from SOPs
  • Understanding and mapping of CMM
  • Cleaning, masking, heating, and waxing components
  • Calculating plating thickness and plating times
  • Measuring components using internal/external micrometers, comparators, bore micrometers, verniers, and elcrometers
  • Monitoring the line to check that vats are at the correct temperature and rectifiers at the correct amperage
  • Performing 5S checks
  • Part marking
  • Passivation and Passivation 124
  • Completing weekly maintenance tasks
  • Grit blasting, chrome stripping, shot peening, cad stripping, and sermetel stripping

Job Requirements

  • An Engineering/Plating Apprenticeship or equivalent, ideally from the aerospace or automotive sectors
