Role Overview:An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Town Planner or Principal Town Planner to join a well-established planning consultancy based in Cheltenham. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in a diverse range of planning projects, offering expert advice and delivering high-quality planning solutions to a range of clients. The role presents excellent opportunities for career growth and progression within a supportive and dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead planning applications and development proposals from initial conception through to approval.
  • Provide expert planning advice on a wide range of projects, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
  • Prepare and manage planning submissions, including applications, appeals, and representations.
  • Coordinate and liaise with clients, local authorities, statutory consultees, and other key stakeholders.
  • Prepare detailed planning reports and supporting documentation for planning applications and appeals.
  • Conduct site appraisals and feasibility studies to identify planning risks and opportunities.
  • Mentor and support junior planners, helping with their professional development.
  • Keep up to date with changes in planning legislation, policy, and best practices.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure high standards of service.
  • Attend meetings with clients and local authorities to represent planning interests.

Skills & Experience:

  • RTPI membership (or working towards) is essential.
  • Proven experience in town planning, with a strong understanding of the UK planning system.
  • Demonstrated experience managing planning applications and leading projects across various sectors.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with development management and strategic planning is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local planning policy and legislation.
  • Full UK driving license and access to your own vehicle.
