Dunbar Education is proud to be recruiting on behalf of an Outstanding Ofsted-rated Alternative Provision in Chesham. We are seeking a Male Teaching Assistant (TA) to join this exceptional setting on a temporary basis until December, with the option for a permanent role for the right candidate. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about working with teenagers, particularly those who are vulnerable or have experienced trauma, within an alternative education environment.

Please note that this role is exempt from the Equality Act 2010 under Schedule 9, Part 1, as Gender is a genuine occupational requirement for this position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons, managing classroom behaviour, and supporting students' learning in a specialised setting.
  • One-to-One and Group Support: Provide tailored support to individual students or small groups, particularly those who need additional help due to vulnerability or past trauma.
  • Student Wellbeing: Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students with complex needs, promoting their emotional and academic development.
  • Maintain Professional Boundaries: Build appropriate, professional relationships with students, ensuring clear boundaries while fostering a supportive atmosphere.
  • Assist with Physical Activities: A background in sports coaching is particularly beneficial, supporting physical education and activities that encourage teamwork and healthy habits.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with classroom preparation, activity setup, and supporting teaching staff with daily tasks.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience working with teenagers, particularly those in Alternative Provisions or vulnerable settings.
  • Ability to maintain professional distance while providing a supportive and respectful environment for students.
  • Interest in pursuing a long-term career in education, youth work, or related fields.
  • A background in sports coaching is a strong advantage.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and compassionate approach to working with young people in a non-mainstream setting.
