Rent & Service Charge Accountant

Location: Chester (Hybrid)

Salary: £36,000

Sector: Housing

Job Purpose:

  • To process and deliver accurate service charge information for customers in accordance with legislation, group policy and procedures, and best practice.
  • Act as first point of contact for all complex queries relating to service charges and rents.
  • To assist the Finance Manager with compliance work to ensure we comply with the Rent Standard.
  • Provide support to both finance and non-finance colleagues in their understanding of service charges.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate service charge accounting for all service charge payers.
  • Prepare service charge budgets in line with the Association's budget setting procedure and timetable.
  • Prepare and send information to different service charge payers.
  • Maintain the housing management system for any transactions relating to service charge recovery and refund.
  • Maintain a database of service charge costs to enable the periodic service charge review to be completed accurately.
  • Responsible for fair rent database and registration bi-annually of fair rents within your remit.
  • Managing and maintaining the accuracy of financial information to ensure regulatory and statutory compliance
  • To be responsible for the annual service charge reviews for your remit.

Person Specification

  • AAT Qualified or qualified by experience in a similar position
  • Ability to demonstrate working with large volumes of numerical data
  • Experience of working within the social housing sector
  • Knowledge of best practice in relation to service charges and rent setting.
