Role Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant (SEMH) to join an outstanding SEMH school in Chester on a long term, supply basis through Academics. In this role, you will work closely with individual students who require additional support due to SEMH challenges and behavioural difficulties. As a Teaching Assistant (SEMH), your primary focus will be to provide tailored support that promotes their academic progress, emotional well-being, and personal development.

Your key responsibilities as a Teaching Assistant (SEMH):

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with SEMH needs, helping them engage positively with their learning.
  • Implement strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policies.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCO, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Support the emotional and social development of students, promoting self-regulation and resilience.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour, feeding back to the relevant staff.

Requirements for a Teaching Assistant (SEMH):

  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour (in a school or similar setting).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • An understanding of behaviour management strategies and a proactive approach to supporting students.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, SEN, or Childcare.
  • Previous experience in a similar SEMH school setting.
