Our client is seeking a Senior Ecologist with specialist expertise in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) to join their team. This is a home-based role with full flexibility to work from the office if desired. The ideal candidate will lead the delivery of BNG services, including conducting surveys, assessments, and offering strategic advice to a diverse range of clients.

With their continued growth, our client has created this dedicated role to focus on expanding their BNG services and delivering high-quality solutions across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the design and implementation of BNG services for various projects.
  • Mentoring and training junior consultants, fostering their professional development.
  • Ensuring the quality and accuracy of BNG-related work produced by junior team members.
  • Providing in-house training programs on UK habitats and BNG as new regulations come into effect.
  • Managing your own project portfolio while helping to build the capacity of the team in BNG delivery.

Skills and Experience: To be successful in this role, you should have three to five years of experience (preferably) conducting assessments for habitats and protected species. Youll also ideally have experience producing advanced reports such as EPS licences, Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA), and Environmental Statement (ES) chapters.

A deep understanding of the evolving BNG framework and confidence in using UK Habitats (UK Habs) is essential. You should be able to deliver high-standard BNG assessments, management plans, and supporting documentation for both on- and off-site projects.

Additional Skills Required:

  • A coaching mindset to support junior consultants.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A collaborative and approachable nature.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional membership with CIEEM or RSB, ideally working towards chartership.
  • CIEEMs Accomplished criteria in Surveying or related disciplines.
  • FISC Level 4 certification.
