The Opportunity
Due to successful project expansion, our client is currently looking for a Senior Electrical Engineers to work within Asset Focused Project teams supporting project delivery.

The role
As the Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be accountable to a Design Manager (or their delegate) for providing professional technical input into engineering activities associated with a range of projects associated with decommissioning , lifetime extension and process improvement works. 

This role has been deemed inside IR35 
Duration: 12 months 
Location: Chester

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Producing and managing the production of engineering deliverables in accordance with specified standards, client design procedures, safety case and nuclear site license requirements including 
    • Preparation of Change Management Proposal forms.
    • Preparation of CI-Eng 09 ( PES change forms )
    • Preparation of Design Plans
    • Preparation of Work Control Documents to coordinate works
    • Liaising with our Project Testing and Handover Team.
    • Writing Scopes of Work for projects
  • Developing, reviewing and approving achievable project plans and schedules such that the proposed packages of work can be effectively delivered to time and schedule
  • Providing routine updates on the status of deliverables
  • Checking/Approving engineering deliverables within your area of delegated authority.
  • Specifying and accepting activities and deliverables from contractors, to ensure work is carried out to specification, on time and compliant with client procedures.
    • Review design drawings using Document Review Sheets.
    • Review and agree design for construction using Document Review Sheets.
    • Manage any design changes in conjunction with the Design Authority.
  • Identification of solutions to technical problems encountered on site, and ensuring these are controlled and managed to an appropriate standard.
  • Producing change management documentation and providing technical review of others’ change management documents ensuring the full impact of changes are considered.
  • Ensuring the through life management requirements for new and / or existing assets are fully considered and implemented.
  • Undertaking commissioning activities when required and authorised to do so.
  • Providing technical input to support delivery of work.
  • Undertaking technical investigations as required.
  • Acting as Subject Matter Expert for defined areas of responsibility, ensuring standards are being upheld. 
  • Providing concise technical input into forums as required, and make decisions within area of expertise.

You will have the following qualifications & experience

  • Degree qualified (BEng or MEng) in applicable engineering discipline or equivalent subject.
  • Preferably professionally qualified with a relevant UK Engineering Institution.
  • Minimum six years within the last ten years, preferably within the nuclear, or within a highly regulated and quality-controlled industry such as oil/gas, power generation plant or pharmaceutical in roles reliant on professional engineering judgement;
  • Good, broad understanding of other engineering disciplines, technologies, plant systems and processes that are present in the company; 
  • Understanding of UK nuclear regulatory requirements, Nuclear Site Licence Conditions and their application in engineering design.   
  • international and nuclear specific design codes and standards;
  • Qualified in IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition.

It’s great if you also have the following

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including report writing, presentations, negotiations and customer facing skills.

- Sound knowledge of current health, safety and environmental legislation. 

- Thorough knowledge of up to date industrial practices related to discipline-specific engineering, including safety through design. 

- Good working knowledge of identifying hazards in a project lifecycle, applying the principles of prevention and recording design decisions in the assessment of hazards/risks.  

- Knowledge, understanding and experience of CDM 2015, with experience of fulfilling the role of Principal Designer;

- Knowledge, understanding and experience of NEC3 contracts, with experience of preparing Works Information documentation.

- Experience of producing high quality technical documentation, including functional and technical specifications and project documentation.

- Experience of supervising/managing staff/agency/contractor resources and working with contractors/supply chain to deliver on budget and to schedule.

- Ability to assess problems, feasibility and develop practical solutions.

- Ability to maintain and develop own technical knowledge to ensure the best, cost effective and safe solutions are proposed and implemented. 

- The work will be based at the UK offices. Candidates must be able to obtain and retain SC security clearance.

The setting for the role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on Nuclear or Highway site. These can include noise, slips, trips and falls (high-gloss floors), mechanical hazards, extreme temperature and humidity, pressurised equipment, radiation, chemical, biological, explosive atmospheres, working at height and confined spaces during cleaning maintenance and repair.
