Job Title: People's Environmental Advisor
Contract: 12 Months (Inside IR35)
Location: Chester (3 days onsite)

We are seeking a People's Environmental Advisor for a 12-month contract at our Capenhurst site. This role sits within the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Function, providing expert guidance to businesses on-site across multiple domains, including environmental protection, safety, security, and compliance. The position supports a high-regulation environment involving Environmental Permit Holders, a Nuclear Site Licensee, and a COMAH Operator.

The primary project focus is on refurbishing a decommissioned facility into a new operational site. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible project execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide pragmatic, practical environmental and HSSE advice to support site operations and project teams.

  • Assist businesses in identifying, generating, and implementing learning opportunities and continuous improvements.

  • Positively influence HSSE standards and behaviors across the Capenhurst site.

  • Develop and implement company processes to ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and policy standards.

  • Conduct and contribute to investigations, audits, and inspections, ensuring continual improvement in HSSE performance.

  • Offer specialist guidance in key areas such as:

    • Environmental Protection

    • Health and Safety, including fire safety

    • High Hazard Safety Management

    • Radiation Safety

    • Health & Wellbeing

    • Quality Management Systems & Assurance

Essential Requirements:
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or commitment to achieve it during employment).

  • Previous experience providing HSSE-related advice in an industrial environment.

  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, safety regulations, and compliance frameworks.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or commitment to achieve it during employment).

  • Experience working in nuclear, COMAH, or other high-hazard industries.

  • Understanding of Integrated Management Systems (IMS).

  • Internal or Lead Auditor qualification (or willingness to obtain one).

  • Experience in organisational learning, continual improvement, resilience, business continuity, and emergency planning.

  • Prior involvement in audits, inspections, and investigations.
