Urenco; trusted, long-term supplier to the nuclear industry, specialising in safe, cost effective and reliable uranium enrichment services, are looking for a Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer on a contract basis (inside IR35), to be based in Capenhurst near Chester. In this role, you will be accountable to a Design Manager (or their delegate) for providing professional technical input into engineering activities associated with a range of projects associated with decommissioning, lifetime extension and process improvement works.

Rate: £55-65 Umbrella (Inside IR35)

The Role
To support the UUK technical authority for your discipline by providing professional technical input to engineering activities. To lead delivery of both major projects and smaller packages of work; producing deliverables as well as leading teams of engineers to deliver high quality, fit for purpose engineering solutions that you will then be responsible for approving. To work independently to scope packages of work and determine appropriate deliverables and delivery routes, and to work proactively to ensure that emergent issues are appropriately managed. To take ownership of UUK assets, and look to continuously improve aspects of the business within your remit. To effectively communicate detailed information related to specific work packages to a range of stakeholders and provide specialist engineering advice to the wider business.

What will your day look like?

  • Producing and managing the production of engineering deliverables in accordance with specified standards, UUK design procedures, safety case and nuclear site license requirements including
  • Developing, reviewing and approving achievable project plans and schedules such that the proposed packages of work can be effectively delivered to time and schedule
  • Providing routine updates on the status of deliverables
  • Checking/Approving engineering deliverables within your area of delegated authority
  • Specifying and accepting activities and deliverables from contractors, to ensure work is carried out to specification, on time and compliant with UUK procedures
  • Identification of solutions to technical problems encountered on site, and ensuring these are controlled and managed to an appropriate standard
  • Producing change management documentation and providing technical review of others' change management documents ensuring the full impact of changes are considered
  • Ensuring the through life management requirements for new and / or existing assets are fully considered and implemented.
  • Undertaking commissioning activities when required and authorised to do so.


What do you need to be great at this role?

  • Degree qualified (BEng or MEng) in applicable engineering discipline or equivalent subject;
  • Preferably professionally qualified with a relevant UK Engineering Institution.
  • Minimum six years within the last ten years, preferably within the nuclear, or within a highly regulated and quality controlled industry such as oil/gas, power generation plant or pharmaceutical in roles reliant on professional engineering judgement;
  • Good, broad understanding of other engineering disciplines, technologies, plant systems and processes that are present in the company;
  • Understanding of UK nuclear regulatory requirements, Nuclear Site Licence Conditions and their application in engineering design.
  • Experience of complying with legal and regulatory standards and working with appropriate national, international and nuclear specific design codes and standards;
  • Qualified in IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition.
