And right now, we're looking for a Site EC&I Engineering Manager. Based at our Capenhurst Site, you'll manage delivery by developing, and implementing the Site Service model for the CE&I Engineering portfolio in a safe, compliant, and reliable manner—across Enrichment, Chemical Processing, Decommissioning & Waste, and Group Projects. This is inclusive of people/culture, processes, and systems/plants. The CE&I Engineering Manager will be accountable for providing a range of CE&I Engineering services that support the efficient and effective operation of: the Capenhurst site as a whole; operational business units; and other activities that are conducted on site.

What will your day look like?

Ensure safe and compliant delivery of the CE&I Engineering Services. Post will have the following nuclear baseline roles and the accountability/responsibility that comes with the roles:

  • B105 - Line Manager (Control & Supervision)
  • New - Nuclear Engineering
  • B132 – CMP Peer Reviewer (Nuclear Safety)
  • B300 - Intelligent Customer
  • B304 - Design Authority

Working in conjunction with the Head of Engineering Services to develop an aligned and integrated approach, framework and operating model on how CE&I Engineering Services are planned, prioritised, co-ordinated and delivered across the Capenhurst site (key activities described below).

Develop and implement framework along with the management systems/arrangements and systems required.

Manage the CE&I Engineering team, working in a matrix approach across the Capenhurst Site. Lead by providing clear direction and alignment to deliver against objectives to support operations and activities on site.

Manage the team by flexing capacity to meet demand and with appropriate resourcing strategies (e.g. make versus buy approach) to ensure core capability and capacity is maintained.

Define the requirement of the Training and Qualification Program as applicable to the CE&I Engineering workforce (employees, agency workers, & contractors).

Ensure the culture & behaviours within the team align with that of the wider Capenhurst to create an engaged workforce and an improved worker experience.

Member of the Site Engineering Management Team and are expected to share ideas and improve the ways of working and the working environment.

Collaborative working cross functionally across the wider team and various Business Centres/Group Projects will be essential to safe, compliant, and reliable delivery of the E & P objectives.

Ensure proactive engagement and utilise consultative decision making related to the delivery of the CE&I Engineering services.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal site performance

Critical tasks/activities/deliverables

  • Oversee and lead electrical control and instrumentation capability across the site.
  • Develop and implement standardised approach for electrical, control and instrumentation engineering processes on site.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate quality governance is adhered to during engineering activities / change.
  • Support and input to the Design Authority capability within the broader Engineering function.
  • Provide clear direction to the engineering team, particularly with regards to escalated issues / conflict.
  • Develop and support professional development of discipline engineers.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement electrical control systems.
  • Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to address electrical, control and instrumentation issues and support reliability.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors in relation to relevant engineering activities.
  • Reports on the performance and reliability of the service provided to the Capenhurst site.
  • Trusted partner to deliver required engineering resources as requested by the business.

Key interfaces include working aligned and collaboratively with cross functional teams and other UTD/Group functions as required.

Define KPIs and performance metrics both for delivery as well as system/process health across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and People (SQCDP) to inform data based decision making

Accountable for the management and performance against the Site Engineering budget. Prepare, manage, and update all funding requests within the appropriate process (e.g. opex or capex).

Provide input to the Head of Engineering Services on the strategic resourcing strategy for CE&I Engineering for business as usual operations and investment portfolio

Promotes a strong behavioural safety culture

What do you need to be great at this role?

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering or technical subject;
  • Chartered member of an appropriate Engineering Institute or equivalent experience.
  • Fellow of a relevant Engineering Institute.
  • Ability to lead, plan, coordinate and organise a team;
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate requirements to all levels of the organisation and liaise with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide solutions;
  • Significant related demonstrable experience in establishing design engineering policies, strategies and standards which comply with statutory and company codes and regulations, including safety through engineering design;
  • Familiarity with engineering standards / specification and requirements in a highly regulated environment (relevant UK nuclear legislation and regulations), including Safety Cases;
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of CE&I engineering regulations
  • Ability to maintain and develop own technical knowledge to ensure the best, cost effective and safe solutions are proposed and implemented.
  • Extensive experience in engineering and project management of which sufficient time in a leadership role.
  • Experience in managing resource/ team across projects or a matrix organization
  • Strong track record of communicating, interfacing and influencing at management levels;
  • Background in a regulated industry, for example energy, chemicals or pharmaceuticals, preferably in an international company.
