And right now, we’re looking for a NUCLEAR LICENSING MANAGER. Based at our Capenhurst site location you’ll be responsible for the ensuring Health, Safety, Security and Environmental standards and frameworks comply with external legal requirements, are accessible and are communicated to the business effectively such that their implementation is clear and unambiguous. Taking the lead in developing policy and standards for compliance with the nuclear site licence and ensure such arrangements are complied with at Capenhurst, i.e. upholding those standards.

You are the first point of contact for any licensing advice and provide management oversight of any applications for any replacement licences, new licenses, or license reviews. Note: within this definition is included revisions or new permit applications for environmental compliance.

You’ll lead a team who provide specialist advice in respect of some specific licence conditions and more general advice through the provision of Operational Safety Specialists who deliver day to day advice and challenge to operations carried out by each Business Unit on the Capenhurst site.

What will your day look like?

  • Provide leadership and management to the Licensing Team, ensuring safe and compliant delivery of the Licensing Team objectives, delivered on time and in accordance with wider Capenhurst objectives and priorities.
  • Contribute as a leader to the Health, Safety, Security and Environment Culture development and improvement for the site.
  • Responsible for the development, maintenance and periodic update of Nuclear Site Licence Arrangements and reviewing their effective implementation via the programme of audits and inspections.
  • Ensuring through development and ownership of a surveillance, inspection, and audit programme that the activities and undertaken at Capenhurst are compliant with Capenhurst Arrangements and which could impact upon:

-               Nuclear Safety

-               Compliance with the Nuclear Site Licence and Environmental Permits

  • Responsible for management of the regulatory interface, ensuring effective establishment and maintenance of excellent regulatory relationships.
  • Management of team resources, budgets, and development of the team

What do you need to be great at this role? Degree or MSc in Engineering or Science or equivalent.

  • Leadership & Management training
  • NEBOSH (or equivalent) Occupational Safety & Health Diploma (Desirable)
  • Process Safety Certificate (Desirable)
  • Nuclear site experience involving nuclear site license, environmental permit, and other regulatory compliance activities
  • Experience of interacting with regulatory bodies, all levels of management and other stakeholders
  • Experience of influencing change to drive safety improvements.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching and motivational and interpersonal skills in order to encourage, develop and facilitate team working.
  • Effective in building and maintaining excellent working relationships with external stakeholders, particularly ONR and the Environment Agency.
  • Able to plan work in the short to medium term in accordance with the Company strategic direction and consistent with the overall Urenco Business Plan.
  • Seeks, gives and receives advice and challenge in a positive and constructive manner and collaborates towards identifying solutions.
  • IT literate with experience of Microsoft office applications and broad understanding of plant control systems.
  • Proficient in report writing and presentation skills.

The Job Holder will be expected to hold an emergency role, which may be an on-call roll, and achieve and maintain competency in that role in addition to their normal duties.
