The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity for semi-skilled technicians to join a well-knit team of individuals working out of a busy rolling stock depot in Chester.  You will receive training to be able to safely move 197 vehicles around the depot, ensuring they are maintained and serviced according to the set timescales.

A mixture of days, nights, and weekends – you must be flexible and willing to work shifts.

Role and Responsibilities
You will be completing maintenance, exams and general repairs to a fleet of trains, using both electrical and mechanical skillset. You will also be required to shunt trains around the depot, full training on the fleet will be provided.

Other tasks include:

  • Preparing the vehicles for service.
  • Fault finding.
  • Undertake both electrical and mechanical repairs to fleets of trains.
  • Carry out unsupervised tasks.
  • Safely move and drive trains around the depot.
  • Ensure relevant maintenance exams are completed safely.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working on mechanical and/or electrical components. A full UK driving licence is essential. You will need to be flexible and happy to work shifts including weekends. You will need to be able to complete basic fault finding, complete maintenance and general repairs to engines.

Essential

  • NVQ 3 minimum qualification in engineering discipline
  • Relevant experience in completing repairs and maintenance to engines and units.
  • Knowledge & experience in of mechanical and electrical repairs and inspections.
  • Full UK Driving licence.
  • Flexible, and able to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
