Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a Chester-based SEND school that supports young people with complex SEN between the ages of 2 - 19 as they are looking to appoint an experienced and reliable teaching assistant for a long-term full-time temporary contract (8:45am - 3:45pm). This role is support a pupil in year 5 with ASD and non-verbal on a 1:1 basis.Your new roleIn your new role as a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting a pupil in year 5 on a 1:1 basis. You will be this pupils main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting at the school gate and taking them back to their grown-up at the end of the day. As you will be supporting complex SEN on a 1:1 basis, you will be required to maintain and develop their EHCP whilst liaising with the SENCO and class teacher on their overall progress, additional requirements and attainment needs. You will work on their speech and language development by using Makaton and implementing PECs to aid in their communication skills. Due to this pupils' needs they will at times present challenging behaviour. This is not a personal attack, but how they would communicate if they are overstimulated/triggered/upset; you will be required to implement positive behaviour support including sensory play and therapy. What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referenceable experience supporting children/young people with complex needs, as well as:

  • Experience supporting SEN in a school / residential care environment
  • Experience supporting ASD and/or non-verbal is essential
  • Experience using PECs and Makaton
  • Be comfortable with intimate care/assisted personal care
