GSL Education are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Specialist Primary Teaching and Learning Assistant to join a vibrant and supportive school in Chesterfield. This is an exciting opportunity to work with children of varying abilities, supporting their academic and personal growth within an inclusive learning environment.

Role Overview:

As a Specialist Primary Teaching and Learning Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated lessons to meet the individual needs of students, including those with special educational needs (SEN). You will provide targeted support, both in small groups and one-on-one, helping children engage with the curriculum and make meaningful progress in their learning.

Specialist Primary Teaching and Learning Assistant Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging lessons that meet the needs of all students, including those with SEN.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support for students with specific learning needs, ensuring they access the curriculum effectively.
  • Encourage student participation and promote a positive attitude towards learning.
  • Assist with the preparation and organisation of teaching materials, resources and classroom activities.
  • Support students in developing key skills such as literacy, numeracy and social skills, adapting methods to suit their individual needs.
  • Monitor students’ progress and behaviour, reporting any concerns to the class teacher and contributing to student development plans.
  • Promote inclusion and diversity within the classroom by ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
  • Assist in the management of classroom behaviour, using positive reinforcement strategies to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Support students in managing their emotions and social interactions, particularly those who may struggle with these areas.

Specialist Primary Teaching and Learning Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience working in an educational setting, particularly with primary school-aged children.
  • Knowledge of supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), including children with Autism, ADHD, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with children, teachers and parents.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A patient, empathetic and caring attitude, with a commitment to helping students succeed.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
