A charity-based Cardiac, cancer and frailty rehabilitation Centre is looking for an experienced Communications Officer with at least 3 years of experience to join their team in Alton on a part-time basis. 

As this is a part-time position, the selected candidate will be allowed to work 20 hours per week, over 3 or 4 days, subject to negotiation. The salary would come out to be £15,000 - £16,600 DOE for the 20 hours per week limit. 

The selected candidate will be responsible for all media and communications activity. The overall objective is to raise awareness of the company, increase engagement with their exercisers and supporter audiences and support income generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure their communications strategy meets the charity's objectives across their audiences: the medical profession, beneficiaries, donors and supporters - which is to increase uptake of the service and increase income 
  • Act as the key point of contact between them and the media; write press releases and articles as appropriate, ensuring that they are timely and meet copy deadlines; develop positive relationships with key journalists within both print and digital media, with the aim of maximising coverage; keep a log of all media coverage 
  • Be responsible for the content design of all printed and digital materials produced, including posters and leaflets, and their twice-yearly Newsletter, in conjunction with external designers and maintaining the integrity of the brand both internally and externally 
  • Source case studies and photographs; act as a point of liaison between fundraising and service users in a sensitive fashion  
  • Work with the CEO to publish an annual Impact Report for them 
  • Be responsible for their website content, presenting the charity as an expert in specialist exercise rehabilitation 
  • Manage the charity's BlueSky, LinkedIn Facebook and Instagram, ensuring they are updated on a regular basis in conjunction with relevant staff/volunteers who produce content material
  • Design and deliver e-news for beneficiaries and supporters
  • Plan and implement online fundraising campaigns as required in the business plan
  • Provide marketing support for fundraising events run by the Centre Manager
  • Provide media support for community fundraising initiatives with the Centre Manager 
  • Stay aware and informed about developments in digital communications especially AI

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of three years working in communications and can demonstrate delivery in a marketing / communications role
  • Can evidence social media competency in campaigning using Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and/or blogging
  • Experience using a website CMS and publishing website content (they use WordPress, but training will be provided)

Required Skills:

  • Good understanding of marketing and branding principles and tactics multi-channel including Web, print and social media
  • Writes good grammatical copy, with the ability to turn complex information into a clear and compelling message for multiple audiences
  • Familiar user of MS Office including Teams, Word, Powerpoint, Publisher and Excel
  • Attention to detail and producing a consistently high standard of accuracy in written work and record-keeping
  • Able to prioritise a varied workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Able to work effectively with volunteers and team members 
  • Builds effective working relationships with a wide range of people, including businesses, service users, Trustees, and volunteers

Desirable Experience:

  • Charity communications experience 
  • Experience with CRM to manage customer data and undertake segmentation of donors/supporters (they use Donorfy)
  • Experience in print, production and electronic material design processes and techniques
  • Experience working with volunteers 
  • Appreciation of Healthcare and related charity sectors
