Responsibilities of the SEMH English Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and accessible English lessons to students with SEMH needs.
  • Create a nurturing and structured learning environment that supports both academic and emotional development.
  • Use differentiated teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Implement behaviour management techniques to support students effectively.
  • Work closely with SENCOs, support staff, and external professionals to provide personalised learning experiences.
  • Encourage students to build confidence, resilience, and a love for learning.
  • Travel between school sites if required (driver essential).

Requirements of the SEMH English Teacher:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching English at the secondary level (SEMH experience desirable).
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to teaching.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle (essential).
  • A commitment to safeguarding and student well-being.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
