Are you a passionate and adaptable Science Teacher with the ability to engage students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

GSL Education are seeking a qualified SEMH Science Teacher to join a specialist provision in Chesterfield. This role is perfect for an educator who is committed to making science accessible, engaging and meaningful for students who require additional emotional and behavioural support.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Science Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated lessons across the science curriculum, ensuring students develop a passion for learning and build key skills for their future. Your role will involve adapting teaching methods to suit individual learning needs and creating a structured, nurturing classroom environment where students feel safe and motivated to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, interactive and differentiated science lessons tailored to students with SEMH needs.
  • Create a structured, inclusive and stimulating learning environment that promotes curiosity and engagement.
  • Implement trauma-informed teaching and effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Use hands-on, practical approaches to make scientific concepts accessible and enjoyable.
  • Provide individualised support, recognising and responding to each student's unique learning needs.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, building their confidence and self-esteem.
  • Work collaboratively with SENCOs, therapists and support staff to develop effective learning strategies.
  • Monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and adapting teaching methods accordingly.
  • Support students in developing critical thinking, problem-solving and practical science skills.

SEMH Science Teacher requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification with a specialism in Science.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH, SEN, or in alternative provision settings.
  • Strong understanding of emotional regulation strategies and positive behaviour management.
  • Ability to differentiate the curriculum to suit diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, creating trust and stability for students.
  • Must be a driver with access to a vehicle due to the location and potential travel requirements.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable young people.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
