GSL Education are working in partnership with a specialist school in Chesterfield, seeking to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This full-time position suits candidates with a strong background in behaviour support, therapeutic approaches, or trauma-informed practice.

About the Role:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will be pivotal in providing one-to-one and small-group support to students who require tailored intervention and emotional support. Working under the guidance of senior staff and SENCOs, your role will be integral in helping students re-engage with learning and achieve academic and personal progress.

SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs to access the curriculum in a safe and structured environment.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies effectively in line with school policy.
  • Build meaningful and trusting relationships with students to promote self-esteem and resilience.
  • Assist the teacher in planning and delivering individualised support and intervention.
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to reviews and assessments.
  • Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Job Requirements:

  • Prior experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or additional needs is essential.
  • Must be a driver with access to a vehicle, as some off-site or flexible location work may be required.
  • A genuine commitment to working full-time, Monday to Friday, during term time.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches, Team Teach (or similar), or de-escalation strategies is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a nurturing disposition.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
