Are you a nurturing and resilient individual, passionate about supporting young learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

GSL Education are seeking a committed and empathetic Midday Learning Support to join a forward-thinking SEN school in Chesterfield, offering vital support to pupils with SEMH needs during structured and unstructured parts of the school day.

About the Role:

As a Midday Learning Support, you will play a key role in ensuring that pupils with SEMH challenges are supported both in and out of the classroom—particularly during lunchtimes and transition periods. The position requires a full-time role and is ideal for individuals who can build trusting relationships and who are passionate about inclusion and mental health awareness within education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs during lunchtime and mid-day sessions, encouraging positive interaction and engagement.
  • Provide structured emotional and behavioural support during unstructured parts of the school day.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that supports students’ individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral leads, and senior staff to maintain consistency and communication.
  • Implement school-wide behaviour policies with understanding, patience, and a student-centred approach.
  • Safeguard the well-being and safety of all students under your care.

Job Requirements:

  • Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to reliable transport.
  • Must be available for full-time work.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is essential.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to behaviour management.
  • Confidence to work in a dynamic SEN school environment and respond calmly in challenging situations.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
