GSL Education are delighted to appoint a committed and attentive individual as a Midday Learning Support for a well-regarded school in Chesterfield. This role is crucial in ensuring pupil wellbeing and inclusion during lunchtime periods, especially for students with additional learning or behavioural needs.

About the Role:

As a Midday Learning Support, you will provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils during the lunch break, helping them develop positive interactions, maintain routines, and manage transitions back into afternoon learning. This role is particularly suited for those with a background in SEND, child supervision, or pastoral care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise pupils during lunchtime, both in the dining hall and playground.
  • Provide support to students with Special Educational Needs or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and assist with conflict resolution.
  • Monitor behaviour and ensure the safety and inclusion of all pupils.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and SENCo to ensure consistent support strategies are used.
  • Support with basic care needs if necessary (e.g. hygiene, mobility).
  • Safeguard the well-being and safety of all students under your care.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or SEND environment.
  • A calm, nurturing and patient approach, especially when supporting pupils with behavioural challenges or communication difficulties.
  • Good observational skills to identify changes in pupil behaviour or emotional state.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Ability to build rapport with students and act as a positive role model.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
