As a Secondary SEN Teacher, your primary responsibility will be to deliver high-quality teaching and support to students with a range of SEN. You will work with a variety of students, adapting your teaching methods to cater to individual needs and abilities, ensuring that all students can access the curriculum and make progress. You will create an inclusive learning environment where students are empowered to overcome challenges, develop their skills, and achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities of the Secondary SEN Teacher:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the needs of students with a range of SEN, including learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, and emotional and behavioural challenges.
- Work closely with the SENCO and other team members to create personalised learning strategies and interventions that address students' specific needs.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Provide support to students both academically and emotionally, promoting their confidence, well-being, and social skills.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students' progress, achievements, and areas for development.
- Ensure that students receive the necessary support to access extracurricular activities and school events.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, behaviour, and any interventions in line with school policies and safeguarding guidelines.
- Support the school’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Requirements of the Secondary SEN Teacher:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience working with students with SEN in a secondary school setting, with knowledge of SEN codes of practice and best practices in teaching SEN students.
- A patient, compassionate, and empathetic approach to teaching students with diverse needs.
- An understanding of how to differentiate lessons and use appropriate resources to support students at different learning levels.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
- A commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment where all students are supported to succeed.
- A proactive and solution-focused attitude, with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of students.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
