Estimator/ Senior Estimator

Location: Tamworth or Chesterfield

Do you want to work for a major Civil Engineering firm based in the UK? Are you looking for a change in project and team in the new year? Do value quality benefits and early finishes on a Friday?

My client is seeking a skilled Estimator or Senior Estimator to join their team at either their Tamworth or Chesterfield office. This role focuses on the preparation, processing, and submission of tenders for contracts, ensuring accurate cost calculations that align with client technical specifications. A full UK driving licence is required, as occasional travel to locations such as Huntingdon or Peterborough will be necessary. Additionally, there may be occasional meetings and reviews at the head office. This position reports directly to the Pre-Contracts Director.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and co-ordinate information for bids and tenders within designated area
  • Researching materials, equipment and labour costs
  • Gain and understanding of what the client's needs are
  • Collecting quotes from suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Planning job timescales
  • Assessing and advising on commercial risk and involvement in review/ input to quality submissions
  • Preparing and submitting quotations for work
  • Helping with bids for new contracts and supporting buying activities
  • Monitoring the stages of a project to make sure that costs are kept in line with forecasts and clearly convey the financial elements of a tender to site staff at tender handover
  • Ensure all work complies with quality, safety and environmental policies and the requirements of the company procedures

Skills Required:

  • A construction background and an understanding of estimating techniques is required as well as a sound knowledge of spreadsheets.
  • An ambitious individual with great communication skills, who is confident with a flexible approach
  • Must have experience working on civil engineering schemes with a main contractor.
  • The role will involve detailed analysis of direct and indirect costs along with regular reporting on the progress of tenders at all stages, whilst working to strict deadlines in order to achieve desirable results.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK.
