Job Description for the Chief Executive Officer

Leadership, Strategy & Governance

  • Set and drive the strategic vision, ensuring meaningful impact for stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and represent the client externally.
  • Lead the team, delegating project delivery while maintaining oversight.
  • Ensure transparent governance, risk management, and legal compliance.

Operations, Finance & Project Delivery

  • Oversee financial planning, including budgeting, reporting, and revenue generation.
  • Secure additional funding to enhance the client's services and impact.
  • Manage contracts, procurement, and supplier agreements to ensure value for money.
  • Develop and maintain key policies, including HR, legal, and operational processes.
  • Deliver and monitor performance metrics to evaluate project success.
  • Ensure accurate data collection to inform decision-making and strategy.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Foster relationships with key partners.
  • Represent the client in media and press engagements to enhance its profile.
  • Ensure clear and consistent communication through various channels, including digital.
  • Lead engagement initiatives to demonstrate the value of the client’s activities.
  • Organize consultations to shape future projects and gain stakeholder buy-in.
  • Build and maintain partnerships to align with broader economic and community goals.

Planning, Human Resources, and Finance

  • Ensure appropriate financial oversight, including producing an annual budget and managing day-to-day finances, with quarterly reporting to the Board.
  • Secure additional resources, including funding, to enhance projects and services.
  • Conduct environmental scanning to adapt and respond to challenges and opportunities.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture, including staff development and performance management.
  • Take responsibility for personal and professional development in consultation with the Chair of the Board.

Person Specification for the Chief Executive Officer:

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Strategic leadership and management of an organisation, business or

partnership for more than 5 years.

  • Experience of working to a board of directors.
  • A proven track record of developing and delivering business plans and

projects.

  • Experience in procurement and contract/operations management.
  • Experience of dealing with the media and press.
  • Experience leading and managing a small team, including recruitment and HR

practices.

  • Experience of bringing together partners and of working in a multi-stakeholder

environment.

  • Experience in financial and budget management, including budget setting and

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication, presentation, influencing, negotiating and

networking skills, including the ability to build consensus, manage

stakeholders and develop partnerships.

  • Strong commercial, financial and fundraising skills.
  • IT literate and aware of new ways of working.
  • Resilient and able to solve problems creatively and work under pressure.
  • Flexible, innovative and able to respond positively to changing circumstances.
  • Self-motivated with a can-do attitude.
  • Tactful and diplomatic.
  • Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in business / management
